Eye Examinations
Caring for Your Eyes
An eye examination should be carried out normally every two to three to three years to assess your vision and the health of your eyes. Regular eye examinations are important because your eye health and vision may change over time and you may not be aware of subtle changes.

We use the latest eye examination systems.
Our optometrists combined have over 100 years of clinical experience and are committed to continuing professional education and the latest examination procedures.
When your optometrist examines your eyes:
you will be asked about your eyes and vision, your family's eyes and vision, and your general health
your eyes will be examined to ensure that they are healthy
specialised techniques and instruments will be used to examine the various functions of your eyes
if you need spectacles, you will be advised of the choice of lenses from the many types available, and assisted in the choice of frames which must be fitted correctly
if you would like to have contact lenses, you will be advised of the most suitable type for your eyes, and carefully instructed in their use and care
Your optometrist will discuss your vision and offer advice
Do not hesitate to ask if there is something you do not understand or want explained in more detail.
Your optometrist is registered and qualified to:
examine your eyes for vision disorders
prescribe and supply contact lenses
detect and diagnose signs of eye diseases, such as cataracts and glaucoma
analyse and treat eye co-ordination disorders
contribute to the care of the partially sighted
prescribe certain eye medication (Terry Blake)
detect and diagnose signs of health disorders involving the eyes, such as diabetes
where necessary refer to other health care providers and at times perform post surgical care in conjunction with ophthalmologists (specialist eye doctors)
We can also advise you on a wide range of vision and eye care issues including computer use, protective and sports eyewear, lighting, children's vision and laser eyesight correction.
Medical insurance cover
Optometric consultations qualify for Medicare rebates. Private health insurance funds provide benefits for spectacles and contact lenses.
We are registered with all health funds. For your convenience we can in most cases use the HICAPS facility to electronically claim your rebate in the practice. In these cases you then only need to pay any gap amount that may remain.
