Clear, comfortable vision for reading and everyday tasks

Presbyopia Test

A presbyopia test assesses how well your eyes focus on close objects, helping identify age-related changes in near vision. If you’re finding it harder to read or need to hold things further away, this test helps determine the right solution for clear, comfortable vision.

Assessing how well you focus on close objects

What is a Presbyopia Test?

A presbyopia test is used to assess changes in your near vision, typically occurring from your early to mid-40s. Presbyopia is a natural part of ageing, where the lens inside your eye gradually loses flexibility, making it harder to focus on close objects. This test helps determine how your near vision has changed and what level of correction you may need for tasks such as reading, using your phone, or working on a computer. Presbyopia often develops gradually, so regular testing ensures you maintain clear and comfortable vision as your eyes change. Presbyopia tests are suitable for adults experiencing difficulty with close-up tasks and are available at our Ringwood, Croydon, Healesville and Yarram locations. It is recommended you make an appointment for your eye test to avoid long wait times however we can also accommodate walk-ins at our Ringwood and Croydon locations

What Does a Presbyopia test Involve?

A presbyopia test involves assessing your near vision and how well your eyes focus at different distances. You may be asked to read text at close range while we determine the level of correction required. We also assess how your eyes work together and your overall vision needs, ensuring the most suitable solution for your lifestyle.

Does a presbyopia test hurt or feel uncomfortable?

A presbyopia test is completely painless and non-invasive. The process is quick, simple, and comfortable.

Do I need to prepare for a presbyopia test?

No preparation is needed. If you currently wear glasses or contact lenses, it’s helpful to bring them along to your appointment.

What does a Presbyopia Test cost?

For eligible patients, a presbyopia test is typically included as part of a comprehensive eye exam, which may be bulk billed through Medicare. Any additional testing or products will be discussed beforehand.

What happens after the test?

After your presbyopia test, your optometrist will explain your results and recommend the most suitable options for your vision. This may include reading glasses, multifocal lenses, or contact lenses. You’ll receive your results immediately, and we’ll guide you through the best solution to ensure clear, comfortable vision for your daily activities.
